...since I've last posted in this journal. Thats pretty ridiculous, I guess. For you crazies who don't know, I'm in my sophomore year at Drexel and I'm a music industry major. Weird. I'm living in my own house now, which is certainly a good time. If you're ever in philly, look me up. I'm playing in 2 bands, doing other music shit, blah blah blah.
I've been watching more movies recently. I mean, i've always watched a lot of them, but I've been expanding what I watch a lot. I took a class called American Classic Cinema last term, which was watching stuff like Citizen Kane and Casablanca, and now I'm in a class called Film Comedy, which basically goes through the history of comedy in a nutshell, from the silent era to today. One goal of mine in life is to get to the possition somehow (either by winning the lottery or working or something) so that I can just watch movies like all day every day and not feel guilty about it. It amazes me that some films that are made really well can definitely have profound impacts on people's lives. Or maybe thats just me. But regardless, cinema is definetely a very efficient way to get a sometimes deep and emotional point across. A couple of flicks that I've seen recently, particularly Harold and Maude and Stranger Than Fiction have caused me to look at my life a bit differently. I've found myself worrying far too much about the future and what I'm going to do after college, rather than just enjoying what I'm doing now. I guess Drexel is partially to blame for this, because the curriculum is so career oriented and focused on finding a good co-op and worrying about one's career right away. Now I know that it is a bad idea to not think about the future at all, but i'm trying to find that fine line that allows me to live up what I'm doing now to the fullest while still keeping the future in mind, basically so I don't become like some sort of bum after school.
Speaking of bums, there's one here that we call Golden Gloves. And he's crazy and knocked on our door once...
But yeah. School goes by fast. We'll be done our second term in 2 weeks, which involves taking wonderful finals and writing wonderful papers. Woo.
I'm planning on baking a cherry pie on tuesday night, which will surely be delicious. Haven't had pie since like Thanksgiving, which is a travesty in itself.

The Meal carts on the street in Philly are one of the greatest ideas ever. Good, cheap food, served by people that I can't understand. Fantastic.

So yeah, its been quite a while since I've updated. Break was pretty good. It went rather fast, being filled with plenty of family stuff, monopoly playing, diner going, shed building, and all around good times. The last week was spent in the poconos with some compadres, which was, to say the least, a blast.
And then school started. Drexel's terms go by so fast, its ridiculous. It seems like I just got back and we're almost up to midterms. Its pretty funny how some schools, such as udel, haven't even started up again yet.
I got picked up to play bass in a cover band, which is pretty sweet. The singer is one of the voice professors, and all of the other members are quality musicians, so it's going to be a good time. We're gonna start playing the Philly Bar scene in like march, so come check us out. I'll give more info when i get it, but we're playing all kinds of stuff, from classic rock to poplular modern rock and whatnot. Good times.
School keeps me extremely busy, between rehearsals, work, classes, practicing, and fun. I guess its a good thing that I'm acclamated to the busy lifestyle from high school, or I would most likely be failing out right now.
I got tickets to see George Clinton and PFunk in AC in march. Should be swell. And hopefully Bela Fleck in NYC as well. Oh, and flogging molly and the pietasters and whatever other shows come around. I'm going to try to see more shows this year.
I'm also trying to find some sort of internship in the music industry for this summer. If anyone knows of anything at all, let me know.
I'll try to update more often, I promise!

I'm home on break, bitches! So Lets have fun!
Also, anyone who watched Conan last night and saw the one-man Star Wars guy, I really want to go to New York to see him. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, look him up.

Thanksgiving Break was pretty good. Most of the days were spent building a shed in my backyard. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so damn cold out. Oh well. We got a lot done, and I'm on the good side of my parents for a while. I saw two movies over break: Harry Potter and Rent. HP was phenominal, my favorite out of the movies so far. It was also my favorite book, so I may be a little biased. I didn't really like Rent at all. I'm just not a huge fan of musicals as movies. And I didn't really like most of the music in it either. Eh. Two games of monopoly were played. I'm happy to say that I took victory in both. Also, the guys won in guys vs. girls Cranium. Good party at Andrew's. A lot of good pictures came of that.
Thanksgiving itself was good. Lots of food, which is a requirement. I made a chocolate chip pumpkin loaf, which went over well. Think i gained a few pounds over break.
I got most of my Christmas shopping done, which was one of my goals for the week. I love going in that Gourmet Chef store. Its awesome to just walk around and eat food.
Saw Les Mis today with Danielle and both of our families in Delaware. Awesome brunch buffet first. They don't stand a chance against WD Les Mis. And they said "R's" weird.
Jurassic Park 3 is such a waste of a movie. If there weren't dinosaurs in it, I don't know what I'd do.

I hate 8 am classes. So glad there's only like 3 more weeks of them. I also hate english. It is such a waste of time. Luckily, I may be able to use a paper I wrote junior year as my final paper. And I'll probably get a better grade. That is how much of a joke it is. I hate Andy Reid and McNabb right now. Maybe if they had just ran the ball, like most NORMAL teams would do with a lead in the 4th quarter. The defense was playing well anyway. Ugh. Thanksgiving break is going to be fun, I think, except for the fact that I have to help my dad build a shed in our back yard. Why we have to build one and can't just buy one, I do not know. I'm thinking possibly a pizza hut or all buffet sometime during break? If anyone else is interested, which everyone should be, let me know. I also wish the weather would decide if it is going to be warm or cold. I don't mind either or, I just want it to be somewhat steady.

The way my choir director says "AR" like in the word car or bar makes him sound exactly like a pirate. Between that and the pirate attacks off the coast of Africa, I really want to become a pirate now.

Drexel got its ass handed to it on that ABC Special Report on binge drinking. We definitely took the majority of the hate. The best part is that its entirely true, and probably even more than they said.

I have a midterm tomorrow in Digital Apps that I'm very nervous about. The teacher decided not to teach half of the stuff that he says will be on it. Although there was one last week that I was equally as nervous about that I did fine on, so we'll see. I just wish it wasn't worth 50% of my grade.
Homecoming is this weekend and I am excited about that. Danielle is on court, so she better win. It'll also be the first time I'm back at the school, so it'll be good to see some of the teachers and stuff.
I really like Family Guy. Its Funny.

I am a big fan of taking naps. Its not an uncommon practice for me to take 2 or 3 naps in a day, usually 2 short ones and one long one. That way I can manage to get up at the ungodly hour of 730 to get to my 8 o'clock classes.
This Crazy Beatles guy came into our History of the Music Industry class on Tuesday to give a guest lecture on the Beatles. That was pretty sweet. His name is Jim Boggia and has a website if any of you guys want to check him out.
My computer decided not to work in Digital Apps today, basically making me lose a lesson in something i couldn't afford to lose one in, especially when we have a midterm next week. Guess I'll have to spend some late nights in the midi labs.
This weekend 8 to the Bar somehow has aquired a mansion in New York. I don't know exactly how that has happened, but we're gonna be partying it up up there. Should be fun.
Halloween party on Sunday. I don't really have a costume but I'm being forced into making one. Its going to be crappy, whatever it is, since all I have here are jeans and tshirts.

A lot of people asked, and quite frankly, I was a little worried about going to school so close to home, but its turning into a very good thing. I'm close enough where I can stay at school Friday night and party, and then go home Saturday to see the girl and whoever is at home. Its a pretty good deal. Best of both worlds. So if you're trying to decide about going to school close to home high schoolers, take that into account.
This weekend I did exactly that. Stayed here Friday night. Saturday I met Tom, my mom, mrs. turk and her mom down at boathouse row to watch andrew's race, or whatever the hell they're called. I blame Andrew's team's misfortune on the girl who yells. She didn't yell enough. I want that job. Too bad I'm like 80 pounds too heavy. Afterwards we picked up Dom and went to the zoo. The zoo is always sweet. Upon getting home my mom took me and danielle out for dinner. We did a little shopping and then I proceded to fall asleep while watching batman forever. Then the diner beckoned, where monopoly was played. Oh, and the diner is trying to become a "sports bar" with plasma tvs for the football season, even though there's not really much of a bar. And there were a surplus of middle schoolers there. What is the world coming to. I believe that I would ahve won the monopoly game, even though we had to finish early. Oh well. This morning I woke up early to do the Aids walk with the NHS kids. that was fun. Overall this weekend I did about 20 miles worth of walking. Quite a lot.
I made it into 8 to the bar, the male a capella group on campus. It looks like fun. Now I'm in 3 different singing groups. Lot of rehearsals. We'll see if I can make it work.
My bass lessons are pretty sweet. I'm playing a Bach Suite on Electric Bass. Pretty sweet.

So yeah, my dorm seems to have a little problem with "fires." We've had 3 in the past 3 days, one of which was at 1 in the morning. This basically means that i have to walk down 7 flights of stairs, stand in the cold rain for about half an hour, and then walk back up 7 flights of stairs. they're all supposedly from people burning pizza and popcorn. what the deuce? either teach us to cook correctly or desensitize the fire alarm things.

So I watched "The Pianist" yesturday. It was phenominal. Very emotional and moving. I definately recomend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. School is really quiet this weekend. A lot of people went home for the "holiday." I'll just take advantage of the time to do some homework and reading and bass playing. School is going quite well. The early morning classes are getting rather annoying, but other than that everything is good. Everything except for the fact that the silly Kelly Deli in the dorm doesn't open until 12 on weekends. I want some damn milk for my cereal! Peace bros.

So I've finally moved in to Drexel. Classes start on Monday. Exciting times indeed. I've been meeting plenty of cool people. My roommate Dom is a cool cat. We have a lot in common. These few days have pretty much just been getting acclimated with the campus and chilling, meeting people. The room itself is pretty sweet. There's plenty of space, the walls are covered with sweet posters, and we have a ton of movies and video games. Good times will ensue, surely. The kids play poker obsessively in the basement. I went down and played once, winning at 13 person tournement. +$90 for the year. Good stuff. I'm definitely going to keep track so I don't get into debt. And who knows. If I'm lucky, maybe I won't have to work during the school year. Overall, it looks to be a very sweet year. Peace.

So summer is pretty much over. Me and Dan are the only college students left, well at least of the ones that go away. And the high school kids start on Thursday, leaving with a lack of eventful nonsense going on. Maybe i'll crash a few high school parties. That may be weird. Its also weird to be saying "high school kids." I kind of wish drexel started at the same time as everyone else. One of the few bad things about the school.
Fortunately, (and unfortunately) i'm going to have something to occupy myself for the next week or so. I have to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth out bright and early tomorrow morning. Should be fun. Or not. Hopefully I won't be too sore or chipmunk-like.
I've been playing good poker lately, just been getting unlucky. Hopefully that'll carry over to school so I can make some spending money. I just pray that I dont' get too caught up in it. I've been good at that thus far, so it shouldn't be a problem. I've been trying to learn some different games. No Limit Hold 'em is just too shifty and unskilled for me. Not that it doesn't take any skill, but there are other games that are based more on skill and less on luck. Only problem is that with the stupid poker boom on tv, no one else plays other games. Oh well.
I'm officially finished with Red Lobster. It was a good moneymaking job, just real hard work. I don't know if I'll be going back next summer or not. I'd rather just get a job at like sam ash or guitar center, but we'll see what happens. I'm in good financial shape for the upcoming year in college, especially since I won't be spending money on gas or insurance, so i hopefully won't have to work too much during the year.
I've been thinking about what music I've gotten into this summer. A few bands I've started listening to more would be Coldplay, U2, Ben Folds, and Dave Matthews Band. We'll I've always listened to Dave, but just more so this summer. Oh, and a little band called Ruby Tuesday and the Rest of the Week.
Danielle and I saw 40 year old virgin today. I didn't think it looked too good going in, but I was pleasently surprised. it wasn't quite Ancorman, but much better than Wedding Crashers. There are some quality movies coming out this fall (Harry Potter!) so it should be fun.
